UCSC Seymour Center Wedding Photography – Laura + Phil

SeymourCenterWedding-0026

This past Saturday, we wrapped up our official wedding season for 2015.  And for every year we’ve been photographing the best day of people’s lives, we find this moment to be bitter sweet.  The sun sets earlier, the cloudy days begin rolling in, and cooler weather prevails.  But this year… this just wasn’t the case.  Well, except for the weather.  Apparently when Laura, Phil and I get together, crazy wind and overcast skies are in the forecast.  Lucky for us, the day also included warm sun, blue skies, a little misty rain and, yes, you guessed it – clouds and wind.

But truth be told, Jehn and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our year.  And truth be told, we couldn’t have asked for a more rad and amazing couple than Laura and Phil who were, in the simplest terms, there to celebrate with each other, and those Chicagoans who flew all the way out to the left coast to see Laura and Phil do their thing.  The Chuppah on the beach, the hotel overlooking the ocean, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center where they toasted and danced the night away all played in to exactly how they wanted their day to be – perfect, in absolutely every way.

A huge shout out to my friend and amazing industry insider Aimee Claire of Weddings by Aimee for making this truly spectacular!

Treasure Island Engagement Photography – Melissa and May

SameSexEngagementPhotography-0004

On my way to Treasure Island yesterday morning, I prayed for fog.  I may have, just maybe, prayed a little too hard.  Because about half way to the Bay Bridge I looked up at the sky and thought, “Well now… that’s is a lot of fog.”  And from our first email discussion, I told Melissa and May, “Let’s go head over to the old Captains’ quarters on Treasure Island!  It’s beautiful!”  Turns out that security thought I was an official Coast Guard officer showing around some friends.  Whoops.  And we never even made it to the quarters.  Double whoops.

But as it is, Melissa and May weren’t there for me, or the fog, or the old architecture on the island.  They were there for each other.  And when you show up with your a-game and matching Vans, with the sole (Heh heh – Vans.  Shoes.  Sole.) intention of loving on the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with, all else fades away.  So May kept Melissa warm despite the wind and fog.  And Melissa wanted grungy architecture anyway, so we skipped the officers’ quarters and happened upon other amazing places.  And together May and Melissa held each other tight, kissed, and giggled nervously like only two people in love can do.  Proof positive that no matter what the weather or what security can throw at you, you can’t stop love.  Plain and simple.

The Citizen Hotel – Sacramento, CA – Shadi + Andrew

TheCitizenHotelSacramentoWedding-0001.1

In the classy Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, this past weekend Shadi and Andrew said their vows, dipped their pinky fingers into honey in traditional Persian fashion, and said “I love you for the rest of my life.”  And everything was absolutely perfect from beginning to end.  From the old architecture of the hotel, to their first look in a private hotel suite, to their loving family who couldn’t stop giving them hugs and sweet kisses on their cheeks if their lives depended on it.  There wasn’t a single thing out of place for these two, and as the evening progressed, and the dancing began, a beautiful lightning storm greeted us from the 7th floor of the hotel with beautiful flashes of light that lit up the entire Sacramento city skyline.  The perfect end to a beautiful day for two wonderful people in love.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Fox.  You two have begun a journey that will last a lifetime.  I have no doubt.

Rancho San Antonio Engagement – Erin and Jason

RanchoSanAntonioPhotography-0001.1Sweet.  I sat down to my computer and thought to myself, “If I had to pick 5 words to describe Erin and Jason, what words would I choose?”  And then I thought to myself, “Well, they’re sweet.  So sweet.  Like really sweet!”  And then my mind shouted “sweet sweet!” and filled in the remaining blanks.  If you’re around Erin for even a few moments, you feel better about yourself.  She’s so kind, and walks around like it’s her personal mission to make your day better.  And Jason . . .  Well, it’s hard to call a Harley riding dude sweet and not take away some of his masculinity, but you know what?  Forget that. If you take even a single moment and see how Jason looks at Erin, and how he holds her and smiles at her, you’ll know the tenderness in his heart for her.

And Erin and Jason, mission accomplished.  Because I left your shoot feeling like a better person for knowing you both.  My heart is full.
