I’ve been doing this photography “thing” for a while now. And almost every person who I have the absolute joy of working with tells me, “Oh, I’m just not photogenic”. And while I could spend days or weeks telling you and even convincing you that there’s just no such thing as being non-photogenic, I’ll leave you with this – the same thing I told Christina and James yesterday – Happy people in love make wonderful pictures. It’s as simple as that.
And lucky me, because I clearly found two very happy people who are very much in love. James, the strapping young firefighter, and Christina, who has a smile that screams “I work for a dentist”, contacted me recently to capture their wedding. And the pieces like a puzzle just fell into place. My availability. Their kooky schedule (hey, firefighters have some crazy hours!). The plans that were already made. It all just snapped together like it was destined to be.
So I packed my camera, they packed their bags (and James’ fire fighter uniform) and we headed over to a secluded little bit of railroad track off of Highway 1 in Santa Cruz. After a little champagne, we were off to Natural Bridges beach. And you know what? The weather was stunning. Overcast, cloudy, and just beautiful. Yes, you heard me right: Beautiful. Days like those are my favorite. It gave me a chance to make sure James got to wrap his arms around Christina and keep her warm. Except as it turned out, he didn’t really need to do much of that because Christina is the one that dragged him running and kicking into the freezing cold ocean!
Just a little under a year left until their wedding, and I’m already growing impatient for the day to come. Very, very impatient.
