Meet Sarina and Reggie – for the third time. Not quite like the time we spent in San Francisco by the water and eating cheeseburgers. And not exactly the time we hiked around the UC Santa Cruz upper campus and marched through an empty Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on an early fall morning with cameras in hand. This time it’s different. This time, they are Mister and Missus.
Sometimes you have this connection with people. Almost instantaneously. That’s what it was like meeting with these two. The laughter pours from these two in a non-stop freight train kinda’ way. Maybe that’s why we ended up at the abandoned 16th Street Train Station in Oakland, CA. Their love and contagious miles just about run you over. And yet they have “old souls” as Reggie once put it. Their young hearts, at some time along the tracks of their relationship, met the idea that they’ve known each other for longer than most couples much, much older as is a combination that you rarely see. And it makes my heart so full of joy. But meeting their families and seeing why Sarina and Reggie are the beautiful, amazing people that they are just makes it that much better.
When all is said and done, Sarina and Reggie, there will be challenges in life. Challenges that test everything about you. But, and this is just from my humble perspective, I foresee nothing but good in your future. You have a family to support you, each other to lean on, and your faith to ground you. And that is the perfect recipe for a life long marriage of happiness.
Well, except for one challenge you’ll face. And you’ll have to make a decision sooner or later… Raiders or Niners?
